California State Parks Week: Guided Hike

Tomales Bay State Park
Tomales Bay State Park • May 28, 2025

Come try your hand at community science and learn about the varied biomes of Tomales Bay State Park that are teeming with life! Join our State Park staff as we guide you on a hike along the Indian Beach Nature Trail Loop past outcroppings of salt marsh, Bishop Pines, Oak forests, and a stretch of Tomales Bay’s gorgeous, sheltered shoreline! During the hike, we will use iNaturalist to identify and record species that we find. The iNaturalist submissions we record will serve as part of Tomales Bay’s participation in ‘Snapshot Cal Coast’ a month-long bioblitz hosted by the California Academy of Sciences.

To get to the Heart's Desire Beach parking lot, continue on the main road for about a quarter mile past the pay station at the entrance to the park. Entrance to the Heart's Desire parking area will be on your left. Participation in the hike is free, standard parking/day use fees apply.

This 1.7-mile hike is moderate and takes about an hour to complete. Participants should dress accordingly for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and pack snacks or a lunch, water, and sunscreen.
