13th Annual Free Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration on Stinson Beach
Hands-on collaborative art event honors nature, engages public

In past years, beachgoers stacked rock towers, planted a forest of driftwood "trees," and created dragons, fairies, & abstract designs. During this playful event, participants transform the beach into an evolving sculpture gallery. Music, dancing, and other arts are also part of the event, that starts with beach clean up. Hosted by environmental artist Zach Pine in partnership with Samavesha.

Longer version:

Celebrate Earth Day by creating art on the beach! Join in as community members, professional artists, and passers-by construct sculpture using sand, rocks, shells, seaweed and other beach treasures. In past years, we've stacked rock towers, made spirals from seaweed, planted a forest of "trees" made of driftwood, and created dragons, fairies, and abstract designs. During this playful event, participants work alone and in groups, transforming the beach into an evolving outdoor sculpture gallery. The intention behind the event is to create an experience that will inspire and energize people to care for and protect the earth not only on Earth Day, but throughout the year. The event starts with beach cleanup/habitat restoration. We supply bags and gloves.

Musicians, dancers, and other artists also participate in the event, inviting collaborative expression in service to the earth. You are invited to bring along small percussion instruments such as shakers, bells, or palm-sized drums to join in the musical creation.

Instruction in sand globe making will take place periodically throughout the event, and we'll use the globes in our creative endeavors.

Bring a picnic lunch. The gathering will take place rain, shine, or fog. Come anytime 11am -3pm. All ages. Sorry, no dogs allowed at this end of the beach. Consider carpooling and public transportation. The event is at the south end of the beach (to the left as you face the ocean).

Golden Gate National Recreation Area Volunteer Coordinator Tracy Neal and her staff will be on hand to assist with beach cleanup/habitat restoration at our event.

You can get started on beach cleanup as early as 10:00am by checking in near the main restroom area for the cleanup organized by the Marin Chapter of Surfrider Foundation.

Thanks to the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (National Park Service) for helping make this event possible.

Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration at Stinson Beach is a 100% volunteer effort, produced by Zach Pine Nature Sculpture and Samavesha.
