Learn the basics of the beautiful and subtle art form of mokuhanga or Japanese woodblock printing. This form of printing offers highly nuanced colors, gradations, and textures with nontoxic and portable materials. I will share the traditional techniques that I learned studying under my print teacher in Japan and have utilized into my own fine art printmaking practice. In this intensive we will go through the basics of planning a design, carving blocks with traditional tools, applying and mixing colors, achieving different textures and effects, proofing and printing. Tools will be provided. Material fee applies for woodblocks, paper and transfer materials. Please bring lunch and extra tube watercolors or gouache paints that you have on hand that are not precious.
