Event Description:

If we surrendered to Earth's intelligence we could rise up rooted, like trees.

~Rilke

Human beings are designed to be in relationship with the natural world. Cultivating a connection with nature stimulates curiosity, creativity, healthy development of the mind, body and spirit, social-emotional intelligence, empathy and intellectual capacity. The Commonweal Garden provides ideal conditions for children to learn, to connect, and to grow.

Our Rising Rooted Youth Program is launching September, 2019 and goes until May 2020. Our program is open to children aged 4 through 12, runs Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year, from 9 am to 3 pm. You may sign up for the full program of both days per week, or choose just Tuesday or just Thursday.

Our curriculum weaves art with science, nature connection with ecological attunement, socio-emotional skill-building with embodied movement and play, and includes the following topics:

Garden Tending

Nature Connection (including bird language, tracking, foraging)

Permaculture Principles and Skill Building

Herbal Medicine

Animal Care and Tending

Food as Medicine

Nature Arts and Crafting

Ecological Consciousness and Land Stewardship

Environmental Education

Applied science

Earth-based wisdom

Mind-Body Practices
