Environmental Action Committee of West Marin

Founded in 1971, EAC is a tenacious, highly effective grassroots nonprofit organization with a proven track record for successful protection and preservation in West Marin. West Marin is a unique region consisting of 13 unincorporated gateway communities to national, state, and county parks, open space, and agricultural lands, all of which require careful management and oversight. EAC works as the primary local nonprofit providing an essential voice on behalf of the area’s priceless resources before the many boards, commissions, and agencies of the county, state, and federal government working for clean air, pure waters, healthy ecosystems, a diverse and thriving native flora and fauna, and the preservation of a rural community character. We utilize law, public policy, and science to: Monitor, publicize, and campaign against environmental threats to West Marin and the surrounding area. Enhance, conserve and restore vital habitats on public, private, and agricultural lands. Protect over 80-miles of coastline and vital watersheds from environmentally irresponsible development. Engage and motivate the community through annual stewardship activities including the Point Reyes Birding and Nature Festival, California Coastal Clean Up, Marin Marine Protected Area Watch citizen-science program, and Litter Bugs Me roadside clean up. Provide environmental advocacy internships for high school and college students, and scholarships for teachers and under-served youth to attend educational events. Partner with federal, state, and community partners to provide information, find solutions and implement measures to ensure a healthy and environmentally responsible community.
